Update + Guest Post

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a perfume review, and sadly it’s been because of my migraines. I’ve dealt with them for many years, but over the past two months I’ve had to keep them at bay a little bit more vigilantly which means curbing the sniffing of new perfumes. Thankfully, I find a lot of joy in testing out green beauty products and have been creating YouTube video reviews if you are interested in checking those out. I still plan on reviewing perfumes here on Scent Hive, but if you see a decrease in their frequency, you know that it’s not for lack of love or desire, but for the need of tending to ole noggin.

Speaking of perfume, I am thrilled to let you all know about my guest post over at The Greenly Guide. Keri was so kind to ask me to contribute a piece on my natural perfume journey, so if you are interested in reading it, please do pop on over. Keri’s blog is filled with informative resources and terrific articles including another guest post from one of my favorite bloggers, Claire of Rocks & Salts.

So what perfumes have you all been enjoying lately? I am currently testing beauties from JoAnne Bassett and April Aromatics and promise to get those reviews up as soon as I am able. XOXO ~Trish

Onycha and Seve de Pin. Natural Fragrances from DSH Perfumes.

My husband and I are recently back from The Big Island of Hawaii and while I feel like that island could easily be a second home for me, the Pacific Northwest is where my heart and soul are most at ease. In Hawaii, I indulged my olfactory needs with the Gardenia Roll-On from Enfleurage in New York City. As the name of this boutique suggests, this fragrance is made of gardenia enfleurage flowers, and it is exquisite. But upon returning to the cooler weather, something a bit more PNW appropriate beckoned, and I knew just the fragrances to reach for.

Amber Tapestry by Mandy Aftel

The first time I smelled the raw material of benzoin, I was flush with bliss. The earthy vanillic scent wafting from the glass jar that housed pieces of the resin was pure heaven to me. I was smitten. Even though that evening was over eight years ago, I can still recall the interplay between soft vanilla and dark soil and I wanted a perfume of only benzoin. Labdanum is another cherished aroma for me, and I was able to smell its raw material that same evening. Labdanum is also a sweet resin, but it’s richer with a leathery smokiness that begs to be worn on a cold night. It probably comes as no surprise that both of these resins are frequently used together in perfumery and make up the the backbone of amber perfumes, and Amber Tapestry is no exception.

Natural Rose Perfumes by Velvet & Sweet Pea and Lalun Naturals

Truth be told, I am not typically drawn to rose perfumes. It’s not that I don’t appreciate or even enjoy the scent of rose, I do. I actually love rose in body and skincare products, but in terms of perfumes being focused on rose, it’s not what I seek out when perusing fragrances. Recently, I had the pleasure of trying out perfume samples from Lalun Naturals and Velvet & Sweet Pea’s Purrfumery, and was quite surprised to be most impressed by their rose offerings.

Sunset Beach and Lost Lagoon by Ayala Moriel.

We were in Italy recently, and this is one of my favorite shots that I took on the trip. It’s from Francavilla al Mare on the Adriatic coastline and it truly embodies the relaxed nature of our time there. We had such an amazing trip, and if you follow me on instagram, you have probably seen the places we visited in this region as well as Siena and Rome. Incredibly beautiful and such delicious food of course!
